What does Bursa City Museum cover?

Bursa City Museum covers the city’s cultural, historical, social and economic heritage. Bursa Metropolitan Municipality opened it on 14 February 2004 to preserve and present that history.
The museum occupies former courthouse and finance office buildings constructed in 1926 in the First National Architecture style. Its three-storey visit moves from Bursa’s early history to its changing urban life and traditional trades.
One ground-floor gallery follows Bursa from prehistoric times through the Bithynian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, then through the Turkish War of Independence. It also covers disasters experienced in Bursa in the 18th and 19th centuries. A second gallery looks at the Republican period, migration, architecture, urbanization, the changing cityscape and Uludağ.
In the basement, photographs of Bursa’s bazaar taken by European travelers who visited in the 18th century inform a recreation of a traditional crafts bazaar. Its shops represent trades including towel selling, carriage making, farriery, saddlery, clog making, knife making, coppersmithing and tinsmithing.
